Grace Liu’s flower shop does weddings, weekly arrangements and a surprising number of ‘just because’ bouquets.
We sat down with Grace Liu, owner of Tidewater Florals in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to talk about how the business started, what sets it apart, and what Grace has learned along the way.
How did you get started?
I worked in event planning and always ended up redoing the flowers myself. Eventually I just opened the flower shop.
What makes your business different?
We source as much as we can from Maritime growers, so the arrangements change with the seasons.
What was the hardest lesson so far?
Saying no. Early on I took every job, even ones that didn’t fit. Now I focus on what we do best.
What advice would you give another owner?
Your reviews are your storefront. Ask every happy customer for one.
What’s next for you?
Workshops. People want to learn to make arrangements themselves, and it’s a lovely way to meet the community.
